Shohan-design invites MalodePaname to Malakoff.

Luneau are back to showcase their laser-cut metal lighting, furniture and decorative objects at the Atelier Kraft. For the occasion, the designer has invited the artist Malodepaname to present his collages and a joint work will be on display.

Somewhere between art and decoration, the two artists' work is complementary. Both seek inspiration in our cultural heritage. They draw on images, shapes and memories that they remix to create modern, expressive and narrative works with vintage charm.

That's the official summary of the event. But, above all, this exhibition is a pretext for satisfying personal desires, such as promoting artists whose work I love and presenting more and more creations. As these are not unmentionable desires, here are some arguments to encourage you to share them.

Introducing an artist and her work: Maladepaname and her collages

These are the after-effects of my past as a gallery owner... I can't resist introducing people to certain artists, craftspeople or designers. Especially when their work goes well with mine. And that's the case with the Malodepaname collages.

I introduced you to Malodepaname in a previous article:

"Malo de Paname is an artist from Saint-Denis who fell into images a long time ago. She collects all sorts of printed matter for her work, newspaper pages, photographs or wallpaper, which she dissects, cuts or tears to create her collages... the collage is sober, homogenised heterogeneity. There's an emotion, an atmosphere, a story, a way of looking at each collage, nothing more.

It's elegant because there's a harmony of shapes and colours, because there's just the right amount. It's vintage, with a touch of melancholy in the images, text fonts and moods.

For this exhibition, half of the Kraft studio will be devoted to her work. She'll even be delighted to welcome you!

Creating a work in the service of another's

One of Malodepaname's works that I'm particularly fond of is Napoli, a virgin in a colourful rococo baroque style.

Although I'm a complete atheist, I appreciate religious art, which is a pillar of Western art history. Many of its works fascinate me for their power, their aesthetic appeal and their sometimes kitschy charm. With Napoli, Malodepaname elegantly revisits this classic, not to say monument of religious art. She respects the genre while renewing and “profaning” it.

This collage is rich in colour and motif, harmonious in its combination and captivating in its look.

In short, I love it, but that's not all it does for me.

It's a stimulating work, a call to creativity. As soon as I saw it, I wanted to give it a frame - and then some!

The first one is ambitious and crazy. I don't think I'll be able to finish it in time for the exhibition...

I also wanted to make a frame in patinated steel, a dark frame that would magnify the work through its contrast. Almost logically, my motif, the MLK motif, came to the fore. Rich, radiant, abundant and harmonious, it emphasises, frames, brings us back to the work and takes us out of it. And to set the whole thing apart, I drew a window freely inspired by a plan of a basilica or chapel seen from above.

For me, the frame can become the setting for a work of art, and that's what I've tried to do.

This joint work will be produced in 5 signed and numbered copies and sold at a progressive price.

Presenting new creations

I'm creative, prolific and I tend to want to do too many things. So I hope to be able to show you some new creations, including a decorative panel, a new coffee table, some lighting...

And if I don't have time to finish them, I'll show you some of the pieces I made for Haute Découpe, as not everyone has seen them.

So, in the fine days of June, after enjoying a drink on the terrace in the Place de la Mairie, come and meet us and discover our work!

We hope to see you soon!
